Bobbi Brown Lip Colour- Pale Mauve

The second of my lipstick posts today, a moisturising lipstick from Bobbi Brown. I picked this up for daytime as I have have been liking lilac lips courtesy of my Nars Velvet Matte lip pencil and wanted a similar lipstick.

Bobbi Brown lipsticks are great because they have really flattering colours and are really creamy and smooth. This one is a little bit more subtle than the Nars stick but still has a pinky lilac tinge, maybe a little more subtle than I would like but it is long wearing and good for work. The finish is a creamy matte satin. It is not very long lasting but fades evenly and is really comfortable to wear for the day.

Will be trying some more lilac shades soon...

Nude lips- Myth by MAC

I have seen nude lips about recently and thought I would give the look ago. I usually choose bright lips so this is a bit of change for me, but I added some extra eyeliner to balance it out.

I picked up Myth satin lipstick (£12.50) from the MAC counter, it is a tanned nude, slightly chalky and has an orange/red undertone I would say.

I really like the nude look, but I am not sure this is the right lipstick for me, I think with my pale skin and hair it washes me a out quite a lot- even with some extra bronzer and eyeliner to balance it out?!
What are your thoughts on nude lips, and any suggestions on a nude lip that might be better suit me are always welcome.

Rockalily Lipsticks!

I have been meaning to do a post on these beauties for an absolute age, particularly as they have been my lipstick of choice most days for the last few months.  I love red lipstick and have a few Chanel ones, but they were too much for during the day, also you have to maintain them to avoid the horrible ring of lipstick as it fades. I read about Rockalily lipsticks online and thought I would give them a go.

There are four shades, all bright and bold, I went for Rockette Red and Pompadour Pink for my paler skin. The formulation is really smooth and moisturising.  Both lipsticks have really deep pigment but so flattering that they look great in the day and not at all OTT.

The lipstick is amazing, not at all drying. And, in my opinion, the absolute winner- I applied the lipstick before leaving for work in the morning and it lasted the whole day- even through numerous tea breaks, lunch. The lipstick does fade during the day but without any reapplication it is still noticeable by the time I get home. And even better the fade is even and there is no sign of lip line fading! Absolutely the best lipstick I have ever worn- I have over 20 day to day lipsticks in my make up bag and since buying these all the others have barely seen the light of day!

Maybelline Colour Sensational- Coral Pop!

Fancying a change from my usual pink and red lipstick choices I bought this Maybelline Colour Sensational lipstick in Coral Pop (420). It was about £7 from Boots and was a bit of an impulse buy- mostly bought for the colour.

I am not that familiar with Maybelline products so wasn't sure what to expect but I really like the pigment and the texture of this lipstick. It is fairly sheer, very light but the colour is quite strong. It feels more like a balm than a lipstick and was very moistruising. It faded quite quickly, touch up needed after two hours and did fair well through eating a drinking, but great if you want a light balm with good colour.

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Colour- £16

Bobbi Brown have recently bought out a new range of highly pigmented lipsticks, there are currently 12 colours available. The lipsticks are SPF 12 and boast 'crisp colour' and creamy moisturisation.

I tried a couple of these out at the Bobbi Brown counter and bought 'Cosmic Raspberry' which is described as 'a bright pink fuchsia'. The assistant recommended that the lipstick should be applied straight from the bullet and without lip liner.

I have been pleased with the lipstick. It is a bold colour with a matte cream finish. There is no sparkle or gloss to it although it has a nice moisturised sheen. I would say the finish of this colour is less pink fuchsia and more purpley, although it is a nice colour. It goes on smoothly, and despite being applied with out liner or brush it went on neatly. I did find the formula moisturising for a few hours but as it faded my lips definitely craved a bit of lip balm or a reapplication. It lasted for about 4/5 hours before needing retouching and did not survive lunch. Biggest downfall with this lipstick was that it did not fade evenly and it does leave a bit of a ring. As it is such a bright colour I think this looks pretty noticeable so makes the lipstick quite high maintenance for long wear.

Overall, I would check out other colours of this range for sure as I think this colours, and the others available are really sophisticated but bright and fun.

Max Factor staying power! Lipfinity gloss.

I have not used many Max Factor products, but I was looking for a pink gloss that I could wear for work without having to reapply all the time. I picked up this Max Factor Lipfinity Colour & Gloss in Shimmering Pink (500).

Apply the first one, a thick colour, allow to dry and then apply the light gloss over the top. The colour is a little heavier than a usual gloss, the first end is quite thick and dries in about 2 or 3 minutes. It is a metallic pink. The gloss end is sheer and shimmery, much more what you would expect from a gloss.

The finish is great. The first wand gives a lasting colour base. It stayed perfect from morning right through to the night. The gloss needed a retouching a little after eating. You need to use make up remover to take it off and, with the remover it comes off easily. Although the colour part dries and stays on your lips the gloss wand keeps your lips moist and soft. Can't believe the staying power of this stuff! I will definitely be checking out a few more colours.

The only time it let me down was when I didn't let the first colour dry enough and it started to rub off and ball up a little on the lips after a couple of hours, as the gloss started to wear off.

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil- £17.50 each

Nars describes these as a 'lipstick in a jumbo pencil' At the moment I have Red Square (red) and Roman Holiday (pink). There are currently 20 shades available.

They are fat little pencils are ideal for covering the whole lip rather than as a liner, very much like a matte lipstick or lip paint. They are truly matte with no shine. However, despite this, they are not drying (although I would not call them moisturising either). They coat the lips in a powdery colour and provides great colour coverage.

The Red Square fades evenly (no ring) and lasts really well- through dinner and drinks!! The pink, being lighter fades slightly quicker but still lasts a few hours and is fairly drinks proof.

RED SQUARE
You can see from the picture this is a real orange based red. It is very bright and only one coat is needed to cover the lips with colour. It has a very matte finish, and as I mentioned, really long lasting.

ROMAN HOLIDAY
This is a pale powder pink on the verge of lilac. Despite being an unusual shade it is quite flattering and suitable for the day. I usually wear it with a lip gloss over the top (Nars: Angelika)

Nars have recently bought out a  Velvet Gloss version of the pencil. I am hoping to pick some of these up soon. I have tried them out in Space NK and they are much sheerer and I would guess they would not have the longevity of the the Velvet matte but I will give them a go and let you know!
